Katy B
Katie Brien, better known as Katy B, is a singer-songwriter from Peckham, South London, UK. She is often described as “a R&B, funky, house and garage singer” and had been working with British underground grime, garage and house record producers since the age of fifteen.
As Baby Katy she featured on DJ NG‘s song “Tell Me“, and as Kattie B she done hi-NRG Eurodisco versions of Katrina and the Waves’ “Love Shine a Light” and Deniece Williams’s “Let’s Hear It For The Boy”. Since then she prefer to be known as simply Katy B.
Katy B has collaborated with Geeneus to cover the Kevin Saunderson produced “Good Life” and the track “As I“. She also provides vocals on the track “Hold Me” for The Count & Sinden‘s debut album “Mega Mega Mega” and features on Magnetic Man‘s tracks “Perfect Stranger” and “Crossover” as well as on drumandbass tracks from DJ Zinc “Take Me With You” and Zinc & Makoto “Fade Away“.
Her debut hit “Katy On a Mission” was released by Rinse accompanied by a b-side entitled “Louder” on 22 August 2010. The song was co-written by Benga, Katy B and Geeneus, and produced by Benga. “Katy On a Mission” was praised by contemporary critics alike for its club appeal in addition to the standard of vocal delivery Katy B has on the track. It achieved charting success in the United Kingdom where it topped the UK Dance Chart and UK Indie Chart while peaking at number 5 on the UK Singles Chart. The single was accompanied by a music video which was directed by Johny Mourgue.
Following on from the huge success of “Katy On A Mission”, Katy B has unveiled the brand new video for her next single “Lights On“. Featuring Mercury Music Prize winner Ms Dynamite and produced by FM founder Geeneus with great remix from Skream “Lights On” is set for release on December 13th 2010 via Rinse. Currently Katy B is working on her debut album which includes productions from DJ Zinc, Geeneus and Benny Ill.
