The Japanese Popstars are an electronic act from Derry, Northern Ireland, consisting of Declan McLaughlin aka Decky Hedrock, Gary Curran, and Gareth Donoghue.
They released first single “Rodney Trotter“on Dozer Records in 2006 and another track “Dirty Popstars (On Your Radio)” in 2007. Then they were signed to indie label Gung-Ho Recordings (home of the Gus Gus, Zoo Brazil and Greg Churchill). On this new label in 2008 they released such big hits as “Sample Whore“, “Dellboy’s Revenge” and “Rise Of Ulysses“.
All this tracks were often played in Pete Tong’s radio show Essential Selection and “Sample Whore” even became Essential New Tune on April 25th. They also created many remixes on such artists as Groove Armada, Cagedbaby, Shinichi Osawa, Streetlife DJs and even on such popstars as Beyonce and Depeche Mode.
The Japanese Popstars debut album “We Just Are” was released on July 28th 2008 also on Gung-Ho Recordings. It contained all previous released tracks plus heavy monster and one of my personal favorite tracks “FaceMelter“.
Their latest single from this album will be song under the same name “We Just Are (Finalizer)” and on this single you can find special very beautiful vocal version from Jill Letson. It will be released on June 15th on Gung-Ho Recordings.
