The Brookes Brothers, or Phil and Dan Brookes, have emerged as one of the major breakthrough drum n bass artists of recent years.
Raised in London, the two brothers discovered a love for the more soulful sounds of drum’n’bass around the turn of the millenium. It was not long before they began producing in 2002. Fast forward six years and the brothers have already established themselves as some of the most exciting producers on the scene.
Their debut 12” “Portal / Desert Island” came out on Danny Wheeler’s W10 imprint to immediate acclaim, setting the Brookes’ on their road to success. This was followed by “Verano“, a collaboration with old cohort and longtime collaborator Sub Focus, one of the biggest tunes of 2006.
As a result of their hard work, in 2007 the Brookes Brothers were exclusively signed to Fresh and Adam F’s Breakbeat Kaos imprint. Their first release on Breakbeat Kaos was the huge “Hard Knocks / Mistakes“, which received major radio support from the likes of Zane Lowe, Pete Tong and the Trophy Twins, as well as staple drum & bass DJ’s such as Andy C, Grooverider and Adam F.
Next up they collaborated with another rising star, Culture Shock, together creating the monster track “Rework“, one of the biggest drum’n’bass tracks of 2007.
Collaborations followed in 2008 with Hospital’s Danny Byrd whose joint effort “Goldrush” received massive plaudits from critics everywhere. It was their remix of J Majik & Wickaman’s “Crazy World” though the same year that did what not many other D&B producers have ever managed to do and make it onto national daytime radio playlists. Now rapidly becoming a household name the remix requests began to pour in and Brookes Brothers followed up with remixes on Chase & Status “Let It Go”, Filthy Dukes “Messages”, Shinichi Osawa “Star Guitar” and The BPA “Seattle”.
Proving they were no flash in the pan the brothers then came up with their biggest release to date, the awe-inspiring “Tear You Down“. Spending 2 weeks at no.1 in the UK dance chart and a further 15 weeks in the top 20, even being made ‘Record Of the Week’ by Radio 1’s Sara Cox gave them yet another injection of worldwide critical acclaim.
In the end of 2010 they released another amazing record “Last Night / War Cry“. Taken from their eagerly awaited forthcoming debut album scheduled for spring next year, this “Last Night” has been doing the rounds on dubplate for a little while now and has seen many a club surrender to its gorgeous future soul sensibilities. Skipping, delicate breaks and galloping synths send this on its way with the dreamy sustained vocals that have dance floors mouthing along in unison without fail. On the other side “War Cry” is a sonic explosion of half-stepping beats, snarling bass hits, thunderous subs and vocal chants that give a menacing middle-eastern vibe.
Released on November 15th, 2010 on Breakbeat Kaos (BBK040) it already received massive support of DJ Fresh, Andy C, Adam F, Sub Focus, Hype, Marky, High Contrast, London Elektricty, Danny Byrd and almost every Radio 1 Dance DJ. And if it is not enough you can also enjoy their amazing remix of superhit “Traktor” from Wretch 32 which will see the light in February 2011.
