List Of Night Clubs in Riga, Latvia

This is my list of night clubs, or more likely list of night spots in my home city Riga in Latvia. In this list I included not only night clubs, but also different bars, cafe and restaurants where djs are playing on weekends, and some places where you can listen to live bands.

Night clubs are arranged in alphabetical order, so some biggest and most popular night clubs are mixed with small, niche clubs. In the future I planning to create list of Top 10 best night clubs in Riga and to write special post series about the most popular night clubs, with photos, videos, and some information about DJs, so stay tuned and check this blog more often.

I’ll try to update this list with new spots, and erase places that are closed. If you know some place in Riga that I did not include in this list please leave  description of it in the comments.

You can find all the mentioned clubs on this special Google Map Of Night Clubs In Riga, Latvia.

Nervo

Born as twin sisters, Miriam and Olivia Nervo began their careers as models in Melbourne, Australia. By the age of 16 the duo had made a name for themselves on the modeling scene but then they decided to pursue music. They were accepted into the Opera Australia academy but decided instead to opt for a more pop music focused career. Then at the age of 18 a Melbourne-based music producer asked the twins to sing some of his demo songs. They subsequently signed to Sony/ATV Music Publishing and embarked on a successful songwriting career.

The twins began receiving recognition when they wrote “Negotiate with Love” for British pop singer Rachel Stevens, which reached number ten in 2006. Since then the duo has gone on to write for various artists from around the world. Their impressive array of credits include co-writing and vocally producing the song “Boots & Boys” on newly minted pop star Ke$ha’s chart-topping debut album “Animal”, as well as writing and co-producing her tracks “VIP” and “Fuck Him, He’s a DJ“; writing and vocally producing four tracks on superstar DJ and producer David Guetta’s three-time Grammy-nominated album “One Love“, including the No 1 Billboard dance single “When Love Takes Over” featuring Kelly Rowland.

They also co-wrote “If I Was A Man” from the Pussycat Dolls’ latest “Doll Domination” and Miley Cyrus’ “Let’s Get Crazy“, the theme song to “Hannah Montana: The Movie”. Their longtime passion for club dance music and club culture has led the girls to also work with top DJs such as Roger Sanchez, Armin Van Burren, Deadmau5, Kaskade and Laidback Luke. Their pop collaborations include Kylie Minogue, Ke$ha, Cheryl Cole and Sophie Ellis-Bextor, as well as working their magic with top hitmakers Rodney Jerkins, Cathy Dennis, Toby Gad, RedOne, Mirwais, The Underdogs, and Greg Kurstin, to name but a few.

“We’ve had great experience working with other artists and producers,” Liv says. “We love finding talent, figuring out what that artist stands for and nurturing their creativity.” Now Nervo are capitalizing on their solid track record by signing a multi-faceted label deal with Astralwerks/Virgin Records that enables them to release their own music as artists for the first time ever. “After so many years writing for and producing tracks for other artists, we are thrilled to be working on our own material that truly represents who we are,” Liv says. “When we’re in the studio, we get the chance to be artistically free and that’s very satisfying.” “With our own songs, there are no creative boundaries, which are really exciting.” Mim adds.

The deal also enables Mim and Liv to tap into their roots in the underground club scene and sign artists to their newly created imprint, Nervo Records. “We feel like this deal with EMI is the perfect platform for us to showcase the young, hot talent we’re always discovering through our journeys, whether it’s through spinning alongside our DJ friends or meeting an aspiring vocalist at a club,” Liv says. “Music culture is what turns us on so we want to be at the forefront of that by finding artists and bringing out their best with Nervo Records,” Mim says.

Liv recently moved to New York City, while Mim still lives in London, enabling the duo to keep their finger on the pulse on both sides of the Atlantic. “It couldn’t be a better set-up,” Mim says. “We’re constantly moving around the world, so as we hear different sounds and discover new trends, now we have an exciting platform to channel it all.” Nervo attended this year’s Winter Music Conference where they previewed their debut dance release “This Kind of Love” on UK’s Loaded Records, which has since gone #1 on the World Club Charts and #2 on the UK Music Week Club Charts.

Recently Nervo released another big dancefloor hit “Irresistible” featuring the vocals of British singer Ollie James, with some great remixes from TV Rock, Sideways, Myon & Shane 54, Beckwith and Chuckie & Gregori Losman. And soon they planning on releasing their first debut Nervo album. You can also hear their vocal on last year hit “Take Me To Ibiza” from Massive and check their remixing skills on such songs as Cobra Starship “Hot Mess”, Delerium “Dust In Gravity”, Gravy “All The Bad Girls”, Sergio Medes feat Black Eyed PEas “Mas Que Nada” and Chuckie & LMFAO “Let The Bass Kick”.

Noir

Whether he is traveling the world djing at some of the finest parties on the planet, or producing tracks that gain support from the cream of the world’s elite players, Noir (aka René Kristensen) remains one of the industry’s most respected and hard working individuals.

Already with over 10 years experience under his belt, Noir gave up his daytime job at the end of 2003 to focus and concentrate on his dj and producing career, and he has never looked back. After spending most of 2004 concentrating on perfecting his sound, Noir got his debut with signings on more than 10 labels including Toolroom Records, Data, Juicy, Oxyd Records, Deeplay and Warner.

It was during this time that his massive track “My MTV” was unveiled. Quickly snapped up by Toolroom, the track swiftly gained support from every key dj on the planet, and duly rocketed to number 2 in the Buzz Chart and number 4 in the Miami Buzz Chart. It shot to number 1 in the Beatport chart – staying in the top 10 for more than 3 weeks – whilst also hitting number 1 on Dj Download.

Further tracks “Helpless“, “We Got Love” and “Feel Alive” continued to push the boundaries, whilst his superb collaborations with Katherine Ellis, Roland Clark, Chris Lake, Ian Carey, Paul Harris, D. Ramirez, Olav Basoski, Robbie Rivera and Granite & Phunk amongst others were immediate hits on labels that included Onephatdeeva, DTPM, Southern Fried, Gossip, House Session, Sume and Double Frequency.

If you want to listen to great production of Rene Kristensen you must check not only his Noir works, but also such monikers as Decaff, Soul Flava and RNK. Rene also created huge amount of remixes on such artists as Arias, Bart B More, Djuma Soundsystem, John Acquaviva, Deadmau5, Norman Doray, Superbass and Matt Samuels.

In late 2007 Noir decided to start Noir Music, and the label is now established as one of the most forward thinking imprints on the market. Noir Music serves as an outlet for his own productions whilst also showcasing some of the best new producers in music, and releases that include “Super Skunk“, “Sweet Devil“, “All About House Music“, “Icicle“, “Quartro Uno Sei” and “Burner King” have hit the top spots on charts for Beatport and countless other download sites.

In February 2009 Noir released his debut album entitled “Best of (2006-2009)” and received the award for best upfront deejay of the year at DDJA. 2009 was also the year where Noir Music (the label) became one of the most popular and best selling house-labels in the world mainly because of the high quality level and the now very famous compilation series called “Dark Stars“.

Latest works from Noir include track “Africanism” released on label Neurotraxx Deluxe on 4th November, 2010.

Ambassador 21

Ambassador 21 is a Breakcore/Digital Hardcore/Industrial/Metal band from Minsk, Belarus which was founded in the summer of 2001 by Natasha and Alexey Protasov.

Before forming the band, Natasha and Alexey were both popular radio DJs and worked at several Belarusian FM-stations. When Alexey’s article “FM Must Die!” was published in the press and Internet and the first Ambassador21 tracks were broadcast, Ambassador21’s founders were fired from their positions as DJs.

Ambassador 21 founded their own label known as Invasion Wreck Chords to publish their debut album “Invitation To Execution“. “People Vs. Ambassador21” was released six months later. The next album “Akcija” was released in March 2004 and included collaborations with Joey “Shithead” Keithley from D.O.A., Schizoid, Punish yourself, and Fanny. In December 2004 Ambassador 21 released the “I Wanna Kill U.Com” EP and the group’s first 12″. “Akcija V1.1”. was released on CD and 2LPs in the beginning of 2005 and in 2006 they released another album “Weight Of Death“.

Natasha and Alexey Protasov in 2006 also started new side project Suicide Inside with release of first album “Learn To Swallow” on Invasion Wreck Chords. Next Suicide Inside albums – “Theory Of The Arising Of Desire” (2006) and “Dead Red” (2008) – were released on German label Pflichtkauf.

In 2007 Ambassador 21 released albums “Drunken, Crazy, With A Gun“, “Fuck All $y$tem$” and collection of remixes “Cut&Go“.

Justified Thirst For Blood“, a compilation 2002-2007, and first band’s DVD “Monsters, Victims & Witnesses” has been released in 2008 – both by Invasion and Vendetta music (US-edition).

In 2009 together with bands Chrysalide and Punish Yourself they released two-parts album “Peacemakers Inc“. New full-length album “Power Rage (Face Your Future Killers)” coming out at September 3 2009.

To better understand music and lyric of Ambassador 21 here is an excerpt  from one of their interviews.

“Our creativity is very existential. The lyrics talk mainly about personal freedom and about your own riot. When we talk about riot we are interested in the personal side of the thing. If your target is anarchy, this isn’t a problem. You don’t have to care about people that tell you that it’s an utopia and that it’s impossible to be free in this society. You’ve got to think that they built a system that doesn’t work and that is based on your fear to work. If you stop being afraid about these things you’ll make them weak. With our music we want to talk to free people. It makes no sense to talk to slaves as they’ll never listen to you. They have got more important things to do than go to an A21 gig or to buy our records, and they would think: ”Strange people, they could get a real job and make money instead…”. We don’t support revolution, we’re for riot. Revolution has concrete targets but riot, which hasn’t any, happens inside you, and that’s what’s great about it. We don’t have any political aims. We want to irritate by telling what we really want. We started this as a blietzkrieg and we’ll be going on with it.”

Blue Foundation

Blue Foundation is a Danish electronic music group recently mostly known for their song “Eyes on Fire“, which was featured in the film “Twilight” and on the film’s soundtrack which debuted at #1 on the Billboard 2000 on November 22, 2008.

Blue Foundation started out in 2000 based on Tobias Wilner aka Bichi’s cooperation with various artists and musicians such as London based Japanese sound artist and dj Tatsuki Oshima, Copenhagen based vocalist and songwriter Kirstine Stubbe Teglbjaerg (the lead vocalist on “Eyes On Fire”), trumpet and keyboard player Bo Rande from Copenhagen and Berlin based MC Jabber.

The music of Blue Foundation can be described as a mix of melodic dreamy pop influenced by indietronica and shoegaze. Tobias Wilner just called it folk music for modern people.

Blue Foundation released their first 7” “Hide/Hollywood” via MoshiMoshi (label of Hot Chip, Bloc Party etc) in September 2000 and their first, self-titled album was released shortly after in 2001 on April Records. During the last years, Blue Foundation have expanded their audience, embracing both the underground and the alternative mainstream. Second album “Sweep Of Days” was released in 2004 and 3rd album “Life Of A Ghost” in 2007, both on Danish Virgin Records.

You can find the beautiful and cinematic sound of Blue Foundation in major blockbusters such as “Twilight” (track “Eyes On Fire”) and “Miami Vice” (track “Sweep”) and their music also appeared on compilations of Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren.

Tobias Wilner in December 2008 found a new project “Ghost Society” together with Sara Savery from People Press Play and Lasse Herbst. They released their first EP “Dogs And Desperation” on May 11, 2009. Tobias and Sara also perform as duo “Savery Meets Bichi”.

The latest work from Blue Foundation is re-recording of track “Watch You Sleeping” from their album “Life Of A Ghost”. This time the song is performed by Mark Kozelek from bands Sun Kil Moon and Red House Painters. You can see the stream of this new song here.

Martijn Ten Velden – I Wish U Could (Feat Luciana Caporaso)

Голландец Martijn Ten Velden известен своими совместными проектами с Mark Knight, David James (Audio Drive, так они назывались) и Lucien Foort. “I Wish U Could” это одна из немногих его сольных работ, и спела её Luciana Caporaso, та самая, которая исполнила “Yeah Yeah” для Bodyrox и “Bigger Than Big” для Supermal.
