Avicii is the project of young dj and producer Tim Bergling, also known as Tim Berg. He was born on 8 September 1989 in Stockholm, Sweden.
Explaining his “Avicii” moniker, he said that “Avicii is kind of like Dante’s Inferno, it’s the lowest level of hell in Buddhism. A friend of mine told me about it, and it stuck in my head. I was going to make up a name for my MySpace page for the first time, and I just kind of went for it. I tried a couple of other names before, but they were all taken (laughing). I kind of ended up with Avicii, and then I got really attached to it.”
He started out in 2008, when he was 18 years old, doing a bedroom remix of the theme tune to the Commodore 64 game, “Lazy Jones”. This led to his first release on Strike Recordings, “Lazy Lace“. Berg became captivated and spent almost every waking hour in his studio creating remixes. He has a distinctive style, producing music using a broad range of sounds, rather than remaining focused on one particular genre.
Avicii’s first big track “Manman“, was released on Pete Tong’s label, Bedroom Bedlam, after winning Pete Tong’s Fast Trax with 70 percent of the votes. Afther that he was very busy making tracks and remixes one after another.
In 2009 he created track “Ryu“, which was charted two weeks before release on Pete Tong’s Essential Mix. One week later it was ‘This Week’s Essential New Tune’ while at the same time the “track of the week” on Tiesto’s Club Life (Episode 113). The track hit Beatport Top 20 in worldwide sales almost instantly and has been on Top 30 for over 4 weeks.
On Joia Records he released his firt huge single under Tim Berg name “Alcoholic” which was re-released sever times with new remixes from John Dahlback, Dada Life, Jonas Sellberg, Richard Grey and others.
His next big hit under Tim Berg was “Seek Bromance“. It was released on 17 October 2010 in the Netherlands, and on 24 October in the United Kingdom, where it charted at number 13. The song is a vocal version of Berg’s instrumental track “Bromance“, with the addition of vocals from the track “Love You Seek” by Italian DJ Samuele Sartini featuring English singer Amanda Wilson.
Avicii together with Sebastien Drums created another two massive hits “Even” and especially “My Feelings For You“. Originally “My Feelings For You” was made by French band Cassius and released on Astralwerks in 1999. The new remix was released in 2010 and its energetic, uplifting style made it an instant hit in clubs across the UK and Europe. The song is featured on many dance compilation albums of 2010, including Global Gathering: Festival Anthems. The music video was released on 15 October, 2010 in the United Kingdom. It received a fair amount of video play and as such charted on the UK Dance chart on 17 October, 2010 at a current peak of 26. The single will be released in the United Kingdom on 13 December, 2010 as a digital EP with additional remixes. The vocals are sampled from Gwen McRae “All This Love That I’m Giving”.
Tim Bergling another works under Avicii name include “Bom” on Vicious Recordings, “Malo“, “Mujo“, “Strutnut” and massive amount of remixes on such artists as Alex Gaudino, Bob Sinclar, Dada Life, David Guetta, Dirty South, Dizzee Rascal, Enrique Iglesias, Francesco Diaz, Kid Massive, Little Boots, Phonat, Robyn, Roger Sanchez, Tiesto and Zoo Brazil. He also did some remixes under Tim Berg name on David Tort “Lost In Acid” and Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike “Salinas”. In 2010 under name Tim Berg he also released “Tweet It” on Size Records together with Norman Doray and Sebastian Drums. Also don’t miss the track “Don’t Hold Back” (Feat Andy P) created together with John Dahlback under Jovicii moniker.
Currently Tim’s most highest work in Beatport top is Avicii remix of dance music classic “Rapture“. Nadia Ali just released the second part of her “Queen of Clubs” Trilogy which includes her best material from over the years, all remixed. This Avicii New Generation remix of “Rapture” is the first track on the album and easily the best track on it. We all have heard the original version of “Rapture” about a million times since it came out in 2001 and now, Avicii has gone back to remix this huge dance hit. He keeps the sultry voice of Nadia Ali at the forefront of this song but then adds a sleek house feel to this track and turns it into something that sounds completely fresh and new.
