Knife Party

Knife Party is a side project of two members of Australian drumandbass band Pendulum: Rob Swire and Gareth McGrillen. They experiment with more modern, exploding dance music genres – moombahton, dubstep, electro, and house, but you still can hear some echoes of typical Pendulum sound.

In recent months you could hear their genre-crossing tracks in different radio shows and mixes (for example on Essential mix live from Space club in Ibiza). And finally on 12 December 2011 they released first EP “100 % No Modern Talking“. The name of the EP “100% No Modern Talking” is a reference to a waveform in Native Instruments’ wavetable-based software synthesizer, Massive, called Modern Talking. It features four tracks: “Internet Friends” (my favorite Facebook psycho story, “Dance Energy Selected”) “Destroy Them With Lazers,” “Tourniquet,” and “Fire Hive“. The EP originally had a track called “Back to the Z-List”, but was replaced by “Destroy Them With Lazers” as they no longer liked that song. It was released digitally through Pendulum’s record label, EarStorm, as a free download from their official website and Facebook, as well as being able to buy on iTunes and Beatport.

Before that Knife Party released some great remixes – on Swedish House Mafia‘s single “Save The World,” which was released on 10 June 2011, Nero‘s single “Crush On You,” which was released on 13 October 2011 and, finally, of “Unison” by Porter Robinson which was released on 19 October 2011 on his debut EP, “Spitfire“, released on OWSLA, Skrillex’s label.

In recent Knife Party mixes you can hear some new tracks “The Box“, “Suffer” (which reminded me the most of Pendulum oldschool sound), “Intro (Where’s the Bloody Knife Party?)” and some great collaboration with MistajamUntil They Kick Us Out” and Skrillex Zoology“.

Latest work of Knife Party is collaboration with mighty Swedish House MafiaAntidote“. And what is even better, this track has two different music videos – “Clean” version and great movie/video game like “Explicit” version.

Of course, as the project name suggests, you  can see Knife Party live in some great parties, especially here in UK – Ministry Of Sound in London on 21 January 2012, and The Junction in Cambridge on 04 February 2012. Latest Knife Party news you can receive through their Facebook and Twitter, music you can listen and even download for free on their SoundCloud.

Nero

Nero have become a big name in both the Drum and Bass and Dubstep scenes, often fusing both styles of music in their DJ sets.

Daniel Stephens and Joseph Ray started with DnB, joining DJ SS’s Formation Records in the Summer of 2004. Since then they have caused quite a stir, gaining huge support from DJs like Andy C, Grooverider and Friction, as well as radio airplay from Zane Lowe, Jo Whiley, Pete Tong, Annie Mac, Rob Da Bank, Steve Lamacq and Fabio & Grooverider, to name just a few.

In June 2006 Nero released their acclaimed  “Requiem EP” on Formation Records. The EP featured 4 top tracks – “Requiem”, “Bitch I’m Gone”, “Autopsy” and “Bad For the Brain”. High Contrast included “Bitch I’m Gone” in his mix for the legendary Fabric Live series, Fabric Live 25.

2009 saw Nero’s first release on iconic label Breakbeat Kaos. The killer track “Act Like You Know“, backed with Sound in Motion and a Dubstep Edit of the title track, has been hitting dancefloors across the world for the last year and was picked up by Fresh and Adam F.

Nero’s debut dubstep release, “This Way” (feat Alana), became one of the biggest dubstep tunes of 2008 and is still selling big units across the world. Since then, Nero’s consistent releases have made them one of the most talked about acts in dubstep.

Their remix of The Streets‘ tune “Blinded By The Lights” was a massive radio hit as well as a dancefloor smasher played by DJ’s from Chase and Status and Skream to Tiesto and Diplo. More recently Nero have remixed La RouxI’m Not Your Toy” and Deadmau5 Ghosts N Stuff” to devastating effect. They also remixed such acts as MJ Cole, Chase & Status, N.E.R.D., DJ Fresh, Booty Luv, Plan B, Calvin Harris and one of my favorites Bar 9Shaolin Style“.

The boy’s DJing career has also taken off this year, October saw an intensive gigging schedule which included supporting Deadmau5, Chase & Status and Zane Lowe on their UK tours. On 13th of November 2010 Nero showcased their DJ skill in Nero’s first Essential Mix for Radio 1. And recently they won the 2010 Beatport awards for best Dubstep Act and Best Dubstep Track for “Act Like You Know”.

In 2010 Nero signed exclusively to Chase & Status’ label More Than Alot Records and released another super hit of dubstep scene  “Innocence” together with track “Electron“. Currently they are working on their debut album which will be released in early part of 2011, and soon on MTA they also release next single “Me And You“.

And here is Yogzatot‘s video on my second favorite Nero‘s song “Choices“.
